Winter Bike Maintenance Tips

winter bike maintenance tipsWell Winter is well and truly upon us now and you should be looking after your bike if you’re using it regularly. You can see some of our tips for ensuring your bike is road worthy and safe but the Winter brings with it lots of extra issues we need to be aware of so here are our top Winter Bike maintenance tips.

Winter Bike Maintenance Tips:

Keep it Clean:

This applies any time of the year but is more relevant in Winter when there’s much more dirt and debris around. Keep your bike clean with soapy water and a toothbrush, and do it regulary. You can use a degreaser to break down oil too if you need to.

Mudguards:

They stop you getting so wet and prevent water spraying into the face of anyone cycling behind you. These Chromoplastic mudguards are available in our store – £34.99, but if you’re not sure what to buy get in touch and have a chat.

Tyres:

For extra grip and safety on the Winter roads consider moving to a wider tyre. It might also be worth finding one with added puncture protection too to prevent you having to change the tyre in the freezing cold. Again get in touch if you want to find out more.

Lights:

Check and check again to ensure your lights are in good working order. The last thing that needs to happen is a light failure when you’re cycling home from work. Stay safe and be seen!

Lubrication:

You need to make sure you lubricate well in the Winter as the more frequent wet weather will wash it away. London Cyclist has some great tips on which parts of your bike to lubricate if you’re not sure, but you can always bring your bike into our workshop if you’re local to us and we can help out.

Of course, don’t forget to maintain your children’s bikes too!
