So the Half Term holidays are looming and you’re wondering what to do with the kids. Well Autumn Half Term is the perfect time to get them active and out on their bikes. If you’ve taken time off work to look after them then you’ll need something to keep them entertained. Getting the bikes out and heading off for the day is a great way to get them energised and a brilliant way to spend quality time together as a family.
But if bike trips aren’t your usual activity of choice for the school holidays you’ll need to give some thought to where you go, what you take and how long to be out for. It’s well worth investing a little planning time into your trip to ensure you all get the most of out of it.

Half Term Holiday Bike Trips:
What To Take:
Go prepared and ensure you have the right clothing to keep you all warm, as well as something waterproof. Make sure you have plenty of drinks and water, some high energy snacks and don’t forget a map and a fully charged mobile phone.
What’s a Good Distance?
Well to be honest only you can answer this and it all depends on the ages of your children. If it’s not something you’ve all done before and your children are quite young, don’t go too far on the first go. Build up their confidence and stamina by slowly making your trips a little longer each time. If you have older, more able children then you’ll be able to do a whole morning, or even a whole day with breaks.
Half Term Cycling Activities:
If you can’t manage to get out with the kids and cycle together take a look around for cycling activity clubs they can join. For example Cycle Derby runs a selection of cycling clubs during the holidays where the kids take along their bikes, snacks and water and head off with a group and leader on a cycle ride, or learn some new cycling skills and games, and can even do some coaching. It’s a great way to keep them fit and occupied during the holidays so look around in your own area for something similar.
If you’re feeling really adventurous then maybe you’d consider a half term family cycling holiday with the likes of Saddle Skedaddle? We’ve worked with them for many years now and they run a fantastic cycling holiday company offering all kinds of trips for all levels of cyclist. If you’re interested in a family cycling holiday they have some great ones to choose from.
